Message from Janice

Pounce with Ribbons 2016Lâle Aksu hosted a rally match for her students and 3 fully licensed Caro rally trials, open to all, well done Lâle!  Maureen Murray hosted a TNT Student match to help prepare our students for the spring trials, it was a huge success.  I hosted numerous Interactive Drop in sessions, my annual summer camp, Lindsey Sommer and Forrest Micke seminars, all were filled to capacity.  If you haven’t attended the seminars that come to TNT I highly recommend you do.  It is a rare opportunity to work with some of the best in their field and to learn new techniques.  My summer camp is also open to students at TNT, again highly recommended if you are not already taking classes with me.  This year I have 5 participants coming from California, 2 from Manitoba, 1 from Saskatoon, 1 from Wisconsin, 1 from Victoria, 5 from Washington and 6 from BC.   It will be fun meeting all these new participants from so many different areas of Canada and the United States.

I really enjoyed 2016.   I started it off in January with a drive to California with my 3 wonderful dogs, Remi, Pounce and Sparks.  The reason for our trip was to go and train one on one with Michael Ellis.  As Michael no longer does private lessons, I was very honoured he agreed to work with me.   The new skills I learnt I have shared with my students,  and those that attend my summer camp & seminars.   We hit the California and Oregon Coast along the way home for a much needed ocean beach vacation.  The dogs had a great time running on the beach.

I was not home for long, then flew to Reno, NV for my 4th Clicker Expo.  Jane Eskuri also attended and as always, I loved Clicker Expo.  I will be attending again this January and it will be held in Portland, Oregon.   I flew to New Jersey in April to audit a 4 day camp given by 2 top US trainers / instructors / competitors.  Along with attending other seminars through out the year and a 5 day camp with the great Sylvia Bishop in September.

I am always updating my skills and adding in new training techniques and ideas.   I believe in progressive training and not relying on only my skills from the past but also adopting new ones.  I was consumed through out 2016 travelling to different areas to where I had been invited to give seminars.  I am booked solid through out 2017, and have had to turn down numerous requests.

I was also kept busy (when not running my full time business which is a 24/7 commitment) training and competing with my dogs in both competition obedience and hunt tests.  In the hunt test department Remi completed his Master title and is nearing his Grand Master title.  Pounce completed her Master title and is well on her way to a Grand Master.  Sparks at under 1 year old earned his JH title and went on to earn his first two Senior Hunter legs before the season ended.    In the obedience department Remi became #8 Labrador Retriever in the USA (with limited showing) and was invited to the Obedience Classic in Florida and to the National Invitational to be held in March in Oklahoma.  Remi really turned up the heat in the Fall winning numerous CKC/AKC High in Trials and High Combined, including 199 scores consistently.  Pounce completed her CDX title and finished the year by earning her AKC UD title with a High in Trial and her first points towards her AKC OTCH title, very exciting!    Remi is 4 years old, Pounce 3 years old and Sparks now 15 months old.

Pounce winning HIT with a 199 and Remi High Combined in WA 2016I cherish & love my dogs with all my heart and soul.  Training and competing continues to strengthen our close bond and trusting relationship.    We had a very scary situation with Remi 4 weeks ago.  He bloated, technically called Gastric Dilation Volvulus.   It was a life and death situation.  He was rushed to the Langley Emergency clinic where they determined his stomach had twisted 360 degrees.  Once that happens the blood is unable to flow to the organs and action must be taken immediately.  We caught it just in time and Dr. Nadine Korman saved Remi’s life.  Remi is now nearly fully recovered, so very thankful.

I wish everyone a safe, healthy, happy and joyful New Year.

Happy Training
