Best in Specialty Show win with show handling instructor Kimberley Van Biert & Australian Shepherd Boots

Conformation Show Dog Handling (Skill Building)

This is an introductory class for handlers with puppies or dogs that are not yet ready for the ring, or new Juniors/handlers just starting out. In class you’ll learn what equipment is required, what to expect at a dog show as well as the skills needed to train your dog or puppy to be confident and comfortable enough to attend the drop in classes offered by local clubs.

Our classes are taught by TNT instructor Kimberly Van Biert, who is a successful & experienced owner/handler.  She will guide you through the techniques and strategies needed to get into the conformation ring and to help you present your dog to his best potential.

You’ll learn about proper stacking, gaiting, and ring etiquette, as well as how to effectively communicate with your dog through TNT’s method of training.

We will also go over the importance of grooming, conditioning, and overall presentation.   Additionally, you’ll learn how to set your dog or puppy up for a great first ring experience, making sure they are comfortable and confident in what to expect.

Our TNT building mirrors will help you to see what your dog looks like when stacked and when gaiting, providing invaluable visual feedback. By the end of the class set, you’ll have a comprehensive understanding of what to expect at a dog show, drop in handling class or Junior handling competition.

Limited Class Size and a Good Share of Attention

The instructor was very helpful and every class had new tips and suggestions. She always made an effort to answer questions and share her dog show experience. Over the past few years I’ve taken handling classes at different places with 2 different dogs and this set of classes was significantly a much better experience. The location was good, the number of dogs in the class was great , and individual attention was very helpful.

My favourite thing about the class was the class size was limited to 6 dogs, and everyone got a good share of attention. Also although the dogs were of varying ages all had good manners and all the owners insured that we all had our personal space. It was a calm friendly atmosphere in the room. And it was great to have dogs varying in size from a Great Dane to a Boston Terrier.

TNT’s training method is based on using positive reinforcement.  Here’s why…

Dogs respond best/fastest to positive reinforcement training. This method focuses on rewarding your dog for doing the asked behavior. The reward in turn encourages your dog to repeat the cued behaviour when asked again. Positive reinforcement training focuses on rewarding good behaviour rather than punishing bad behaviour.
