2011 has been an exciting year and it’s not over yet. Chevy and I have been trialing in both Hunt tests and the Obedience Ring. In February Chevy earned his Canadian OTCH passing 3 of 4 trials in a weekend… an awesome effort for a green dog in Utility. In June Chevy earned his Grand Master Hunter title… the highest level in Hunt tests.
In July the Canadian Golden Retriever National Specialty was held in conjunction with the Sporting Dog Spectacular show. Chevy again was the shining star. He passed the Working Certificate (hunting), he won Top Field Dog (show) and he passed both Utility and Open B. Chevy was the only dog that weekend to complete all three events. Therefore he earned the Nan Gordon Trophy and the Eileen Battley Hat Trick award. The Nan Gordon has been offered for approximately 30 years and has been won just 11 times! In 2009 Chevy’s father, also owned and trialed by myself won this prestigious award as well. The win this year makes me the first person to ever win it twice with different dogs, let alone father and son!
We don’t plan on resting yet…. Chevy and I are off to the Canadian Master National Hunt test in Chemanius on August 15th… wish us luck! Then Morgan and I are ready to wet our feet in the obedience ring. It has been quite a learning experience going from a Golden Retriever who loves to work to a Scottish Terrier who really wonders why it’s necessary.
And of course we look forward to September and classes beginning again. We will see you there!
